Classic Magnum members reunite as Kingdom of Madness

May 26, 2018

Press Release, 27 May 2018

KINGDOM of MADNESS:

Classic MAGNUM

Featuring:

MARK STANWAY - Keyboards (Magnum 1980-2016, Grand Slam)

RICHARD BAILEY – Keyboards / flute (Magnum 1975-80, Whitesnake)

MICKY BARKER – Drums (Magnum 1985-95)

LAURENCE ARCHER – Guitar (Magnum 1984, Grand Slam, UFO)

NEIL MURRAY – Bass (Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Snakecharmer)

CHRIS OUSEY – Lead vocals (Snakecharmer, Heartland)

MO BIRCH – Backing vocals / percussion (Magnum, Go West, UB40)

Members of MAGNUM’s classic-era line-ups reunite for a celebration of the band’s much-loved back catalogue covering the period 1978-94.

One of the UK’s finest exponents of melodic rock music, Magnum achieved high album and singles chart positions in both the UK and Europe and gained a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands on the touring circuit, delighting audiences with concerts that were always captivating both musically and visually. Highlights of the band’s career include regular sold-out theatre tours including a memorable five nights at London’s legendary Hammersmith Odeon performed during 1988 together with headline appearances at Birmingham NEC and Wembley Arena, as well as appearances at major festivals.

Kingdom of Madness features Mark Stanway, Richard Bailey, Micky Barker, Laurence Archer and Mo Birch – all of whom have toured and / or recorded with Magnum – together with legendary bassist Neil Murray and acclaimed vocalist Chris Ousey – establishing a pedigree line-up of world class musicians. Kingdom of Madness celebrate the legacy of Magnum’s classic period,

“There is an extensive catalogue of great songs from the classic years of Magnum which have not been performed on stage in many years and which audiences have constantly requested” says Mark Stanway, keyboard player with Magnum for 36 years. “Having said that, I should state that we by no means consider ourselves a Magnum “tribute” – how can it be when five of the members have a shared legacy with the band?  I’m delighted to be working with Richard, Micky, Laurence and Mo again and in Neil and Chris we have two musicians with their own distinct history who will obviously bring their personal musical identity to the project. In addition, with our focus being firmly on the music from the earlier period, we do not perceive ourselves as being in “competition” with the current Magnum. There is more than enough music to keep both bands busy - a fitting testament to the song-writing of Tony Clarkin.  I’m truly looking forward to performing classic Magnum music with such a prestigious line-up.”

Kingdom of Madness has announced its first confirmed show at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton on Friday December 21st 2018.  Ticket available from: www.newhamptonarts.co.uk

Thank You

January 29, 2018

I am back….. Fully recovered and refreshed from serious sleep deprivation suffered from all the preparations for the debut "Intimate Evening With..." show in Wolverhampton on Friday. I have quite a lot I wish to say, so apologies if this is a little long but I am compelled to say the following:

Well what can I say? What a fantastic evening that was for me, superseding all of my wildest possible expectations and I don’t know where to begin with my thank yous owed to so many people, most importantly the wonderful capacity audience that showed up and actually paid to see me!!

I am still floating on such an unbelievable ecstatic high as Friday night continues to feels surreal, but a dream come true, especially after the recent disappointing and hurtful ‘character attacks’ and the trials and tribulations recently discussed and defended by so many wonderful, genuine friends, which hopefully now, can be finally ignored, disregarded and brushed under the carpet where they belong.

I must say special thanks to the staff at the Newhampton Arts Centre including: Chris, Suzanne, Christine and Alex. Especially Alex my front of house sound engineer, monitor engineer and lighting engineer. Alex - what a pro you are; the sound was fantastic, monitors were perfect and considering you hadn’t got a clue what was going to be thrown at you, everything was perfect, and the lighting cues were exceptional, better than other shows I have done in recent years with people that had seen those shows hundreds of times and still not got the cues right!! Brilliant Alex, I will always have a job for you my friend.

Thanks to the wonderful team I had around me, starting with Roger Fauske, Gary Carter, Eddie Gutheridge, Sue Peters, Gemma Stanway and Kevin Deegan. Sincere thanks to the incredible talents and live performances by Sunev Wilson, Richard Bailey, Laurence Archer, Spike, and last but not least my beautiful wife Mo, without whom the evening would not of have been anywhere near as successful as it was…. I am truly blessed with some genuine and fabulously talented friends. Finally, and most importantly, thank you to all who bought tickets and came to see the show (thanks also for respecting the ‘no photos or filming request) and indeed thanks to those who travelled such a long way, without all of you it couldn’t have happened!! I’m already looking forward to the next one.

An Intimate Evening with Mark Stanway - press release

January 02, 2018

Mark Stanway, formerly of British melodic rock band MAGNUM, shares a lifetime of experiences within the music business in this unique “storyteller’s night” of music and conversation.

Join Mark as he reminisces about his long and colourful career in his jovial style, sharing tales from the road and recording studio gathered throughout a career than has spanned over four decades as a touring and recording musician, performing with some of the music world’s biggest names.

This stage show, which will be illustrated with a slide and video show featuring previously unseen material from Mark’s private archive, will delve deep into Mark’s reservoir of entertaining stories collected over the years. There will also be questions and answers sessions, a keyboard demonstration and impromptu playing that demonstrates Mark’s diversity. And the evening would of course not be complete without live performances of some of Mark’s best loved contributions to Magnum’s rich musical legacy.

Mark is excited about performing in a solo capacity in this return to the live stage:

“I am looking forward to the shows and the opportunity to entertain everyone in my own way for the first time – which is not only a refreshing pleasure, but a novelty to say the least. At the same time there will be plenty of material within the show for Magnum fans to enjoy and I guarantee an entertaining and enlightening evening, full of great surprises.”

Throughout his 36-year tenure as member of Magnum, Mark Stanway’s distinctive keyboard stylings were an integral part of the band’s sound. Between 1980 and 2016 Mark appeared on nineteen Magnum studio albums as well as numerous live and compilation releases, achieving high album and singles chart positions in both the UK and Europe.

Magnum also gained a reputation as one of hardest-working bands on the touring circuit, delighting audiences with concerts that were always captivating both musically and visually.

This highly entertaining “up close and personal” show is a definite “must see” not only for Magnum fans, but also for anyone with an interest in classic rock music and the inner workings of the music industry.
